Afropunk 2016 in Portraits

‘’This past weekend, in it's 11th year, the Afropunk Festival delivered an eclectic lineup including Ice Cube, Janelle Monae, TV On The Radio, Living Color, Bad Brains, Morcheeba, Tyler The Creator, Angel Haze amongst an extensive list of young punk and hip hop acts. A celebration of black music, art, activism, pride, history and culture, it is a collective that does not stand for hate, racism, sexism, gender or sexual bias or intolerance. There was a clear message of denouncement for Donald Trump's facist, racist agenda and ire towards the establishment that seeks to marginalize people of color or those that identify as LGBTQ. Forgoing my usual white background portraits of the last few years, I tried something a little different to emphasize the strength and pride of those in attendance. All images were made in-camera with no post production / Photoshop.’’ Andrew Boyle
