Wendelien Daan is based in Amsterdam and studied fashion design at the ArtEZ Academy of the Arts in Arnhem before taking a short-cut to the perfect final result by taking up photography.
Wendelien Daan (she) is an accomplished photographer, visual artist, creative director, DOP and short-film director. She creates a unique and vaguely disturbing atmosphere in all her images, by the use of light and situations which makes you wonder what you are looking at. In her photographs she observes her subject with an abstract and surreal approach. She empowers their beauty in a way that it embraces imperfection, and often zooms in to transform shapes into something unexpected. The images are used to comment on the image of today’s women. Recurring themes in her work are identity, equality, surrealism, and alienation.
